Plot summary

Takane Shijou tells Wood Man about a foreboding dream involving cursed souls and a fairgrounds where a carnival was held last year, and asks him to accompany her to the fairgrounds. Stopping off at Burger King, staffed by Big Chungus, Takane and Wood Man meet Yoshiko Tsushima from Love Live! Sunshine!!, who refers herself as "Yohane, the Fallen Angel", and confront her after Takane tells Wood Man that she has been a recurring presence in her dreams. Yohane maintains that the dreams cannot be due to her, and that the figure in Takane's dreams must be an imposter. She tags along with the two to find the cursed, but not before having to use the restroom first. Later, Takane overhears Krusty the Clown and the Joker trying to locate the cursed, and gets Krusty to blurt out that they work for a "Fallen Angel" before the two clowns leave. On their departure, however, the clowns leave behind a HOBaRT mixer, which Takane and Wood Man discover accepts "clues" as input. Yohane shows up, and Takane inputs a cryptic poem from one of her dreams into the mixer.

[We hear the sound of a door closing, the same one from the prologue.] Takane: [gasps] Oh my. These dreams are getting worse and worse. Wood Man simply has to believe me this time. Narrator: Early morning, four days before Halloween night. The Autumn sun rose lazily in the sky and the leaves had turned the colors of hhgreg’s mascot. The breeze was crisp, but as she walked to her friend’s home, Takane Shijou felt a chill entirely unrelated to the brisk air. [Takane knocks on a door.] Takane: Excuse me, is anyone home? Wood Man: [muffled] Uhhhhh, that depends? If it’s the FBI, then no. If it’s the IRS, I died five years ago. Takane: Wood Man, it’s me! Wood Man: Oh, Takane! [laughs, opens the door] Why didn’t you say it was you? Takane: [sighs] Wood Man: So what’s up? Takane: I’m afraid it’s hard to explain what is up. I’ve had yet another disturbing dream. Wood Man: Is it the one where you replaced Ringo in The Beatles? If so, don’t worry. I know how that feels. [shudders] Takane: What? N- no! It was the same dream I told you about last week. Remember? With the narrator? Wood Man: Uh, yeah! What about it? Takane: Well it was more vivid than ever before! I was at the fairgrounds where they held that carnival last year. And it mentioned something about “cursed souls”. I fear that it’s a warning of some sort. Wood Man: Takane, how many times do I gotta tell you? Dreams are stupid and don’t mean anything. Like, just because I dreamed I was in The Beatles doesn’t mean they’re real, you know? Takane: If I’m wrong, then so be it. I only ask that you accompany me to the fairgrounds. I have a feeling something bad will happen there. Wood Man: Okay, but like what do you need me for? Takane: Quite frankly, I’m… scared to go alone. Wood Man: Well in that case, of course I’ll help! I’m glad you come to such a dashing and heroic… hero like me! I’ll fire up the Wood Van. Takane: Thank you Wood Man. Oh, but first, I need to grab a bite to eat. Wood Man: Okay, where to? Big Chungus: Welcome to the... Burger King. I am the... Big Chungus. What, err, foods would you like? Takane: I’ll have… 2 junior Blungus burgers, a Travis Scott burger, some of those “beans for girls”, and a side of horse milk. Wood Man: And I’ll have the uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… BURGER. Big Chungus: Here you go. [The two eat their burgers] Takane: Wow, those advertisements weren’t lying. This burger really does taste like Travis Scott. [In the distance…] Yohane: Excuse me, I sense great potential within you! Would you like to serve me, the fallen angel Yohane, as one of my little demons? Random Guy: Uhhh, I think I’m going to leave now. Yohane: Uwahh, n- no, wait! Come back! Takane: [gasps] Did you hear that? Wood Man: What? Takane: “The fallen angel”. The one who’s been mentioned in all of my dreams! That girl over there just called herself- Wood Man: So you still think that stuff is real? Alright, let me handle this. [Wood Man gets up from his chair and walks over to Yohane] Wood Man: Hey, kid! Are you the one who’s been giving weird nightmares to my friend here? Yohane: Uh, what? Oh, I mean- Ah, yes. My unholy power must have called out to her! Wood Man: Ah, well that settles it. Come on, Takane. Let’s burn her at the stake. Takane: Hold on Wood Man. Wood Man: What?! Takane: Shouldn’t you have a problem with burning a stake made of wood? Wood Man: Well it’s not my wood! Yohane: Oh, wait wait wait! I must’ve misspoke! I don’t think it’s possible for my powers to cause nightmares. Takane: But you just called yourself the fallen angel! Yohane: Then there must be someone out there impersonating me! Wood Man: An imposter, huh? Well that sounds kinda… dubious. Yohane: Indeed. This is most disturbing. Are you trying to find this charlatan by any chance? Wood Man: I guess? Takane: Yes, we are! Yohane: Then you simply must let me accompany you! Wood Man: Uh, I dunno about that. Takane: I think we could use all the help we can get. Wood Man: Eh, fine. Always good to have a meat shield. But she’s riding in the trunk. Yohane: Understood. I won’t let you down! Takane: Should we be going then? Yohane: Uh, first, I must use the re-[bleep]-stroom. Wood Man: All right, but be quick about it. [We hear The Joker and Krusty the Clown walking] Krusty: My arms are giving out over here! Joker: Ugh, drop it here, you weakling! I’ll tie it down. [The Joker places something heavy onto their truck] Krusty: How’s this hunk of junk supposed to help us find the cursed anyway? Joker: Wo-woah, now now. This “hunk of junk” is a highly advanced piece of technology! Not that I’d expect a second-rate clown like you to understand. Takane: Wood Man, did you hear that? They mentioned the cursed! Wood Man: So what? Lots of people talk about… things… like that. But fine, let’s see what’s up. [They walk towards The Joker and Krusty] Takane: Excuse me, sirs? Did I hear you mention- Wood Man: All right, what in the fresh society is going on here? I didn’t think the circus was in town. Krusty: Hey!! We aren’t the circus! Joker: That’s right! We’re Fighting Joker Team! Krusty: Wait, I thought we were Krusty’s Clown Klub! Joker: No, we’re Fighting Joker Team! Krusty: Krusty’s Clown Crew! Joker: Eugh, all right. How about… Fighting Clown Crew? Krusty: Fine, but I get a 60% cut on merchandise. Joker: Um, 55. Krusty: Deal! Takane: Um, hello? Krusty: Oh right, you people. Takane: Do you work for the fallen angel? Krusty: Well yea- I mean, I work for a lot of people. Joker: You idiot! We’ve already said too much. We gotta get out of here! Krusty: I’ll drive. You better have tied that robot down tightly. Joker: Smell you later! [laughs] [The two drive off in their truck, blasting a silly horn. We hear something crashing out of the truck.] Wood Man: Hey, something fell out of their truck. Takane: It seems to be some sort of… cooking device? HOBaRT: [whirring] G’day mate. Welcome to New HOBaRT XL OLED Edition. [beeps] Wood Man: Oh hey, I recognise you. How’ve you been since the big tournament? HOBaRT: “Big tournament” not found in memory banks. Wood Man: Oh, that wasn’t you? HOBaRT: Hobart Manufacturing has sold thousands of units worldwide. Takane: But, why did those clowns try to run off with you? HOBaRT: This unit supports abstract mixing mode. Wood Man: Can you say that in English? HOBaRT: Language options include: Australian. Wood Man: Okay, whatever. Can you just explain how that abstract… thing… works? HOBaRT: GPS module ready. Please enter clues for mixing. Takane: Clues… Could this be how they were planning to find the cursed? Wood Man: You’re really set on that whole “cursed” thing, aren’t you? And how do we even get any “clues”? Takane: Well, I have had other dreams of strange rhymes. Perhaps they hold the key to the identities of the cursed. I can try reciting one of them to this machine. Wood Man: All right, I guess it can’t hurt. [Yohane walks up behind them] Yohane: The fallen angel descends! [Takane and Wood Man gasp in surprise] Wood Man: What took you so long? Yohane: I was performing rituals! For good luck. Wood Man: Okay, whatever weirdo. Just wait there while Takane reads a poem to the kitchen appliance. Takane: All right, I’m ready. I think it went something like this… Narrator: The lifeless husk lies bare of skin Yet power still resides within A man of three lands guards it well And draws tread force out from the shell. Deep underground he holds his prize And drives away intruding eyes With deadly tests that scour the mind Where one choice seals the fate you’ll find.
