"PlayStation Startup (Beta Mix) - Console/BIOS Music" is a high quality rip of the beta mix of "Startup" from the PlayStation.
Jokes
This rip heavily references The Backrooms, a creepypasta about an inescapable series of office rooms.
The rip begins with footage of a normal PlayStation startup. At 0:14, Silent Hill gameplay begins. The gameplay starts normally, but at 0:51, the opening cutscene glitches out. The beginning stage then appears. A slightly different version of Harry Mason's opening dialogue appears, without its corresponding animation:
Cheryl. Where could you be?
It's strange...
It's quiet. Too quiet.
This place is like a ghost town.
Cheryl.
Harry then starts walking around. At 1:45, Harry falls through the street and the screen goes black. At 1:50, Harry appears in The Backrooms and comments:
What is this place?
This looks like some office place.
But, much more empty.
Harry wanders through The Backrooms. At 3:18, Harry walks through a door into another room, which is of a liminal image of an interior room of a house that is located in Ashburn, Virginia. He remarks "This just looks like some average--", but both the text and audio glitch out. He then walks through an archway, which leads to The Poolrooms, one of the levels of The Backrooms. Harry remarks:
Why is this room filled with water?
I have not seen a room filled like this.
Did someone leave on a sink? Or is this one giant pool?
I hope there's an exit soon. My clothes are soaked.
Harry unsuccessfully attempts to jump onto a flight of stairs, then walks through a tunnel to a dead end room with the pipe supplying the water. He says:
Are you kidding me?!
There's no way out.
Harry goes underwater and walks toward the pipe, transitioning to the next location: the Holiday Inn London Heathrow T4, which is another source of a liminal image, accompanied by an arrangement of "Not Tomorrow" from Silent Hill in the advertised track's instruments. He says:
Where am I now? I just wish to find Cheryl...
Please.... let me go home.
Harry walks through the complex and comes across a row of doors. He looks into one of the doors, but it leads to an empty room. He then looks into the final door and finds Cheryl. He exclaims "Cheryl!", but is cut off by a heavily glitched version of the "Cheryl crying for help" cutscene. The screen goes dark again. When it returns, Harry walks back through the complex, commenting:
Well, this is probably the most normal looking area.
This is just some apartment building or some hotel.
He then walks down to a lower story of the building. After another location transition, Harry continues to explore the complex, saying:
This place is giving me the creeps
Cheryle [sic] would never walk into here
I hope.
After some more walking, at 7:38, a cutscene plays of a sudden booming sound in the complex. Harry says:
What was that?
I need to run!!
He then runs toward a door as another booming sound rings out. Another location transition begins, but the screen and audio glitch out.
The whole rip is presented with visual and aural noise, as though the rip is being displayed on an older television.
Trivia
- The "Not Tomorrow" arrangement is included on The SiIvaGunner Party Pack 7 under the title "No Rooms Tomorrow".
