The Gabe Newell Takeover, also known as the Gabeover,[1] was a channel event where Gabe Newell took over SiIvaGunner. It occurred on the twenty-fifth anniversary of Valve Corporation's founding. It was revealed in the video "The Bounty of Ol' Gabe Newell - The SiIvaGunner All-Star Summer Festival 2021".

Theme

The YouTube and Twitter account avatars were changed to a picture of Gabe, the YouTube channel banner was changed to an image of the Citadel from Half-Life 2 in place of the lighthouse, and the channel description was changed to:

Hi, this is Gabe Newell. Welcome to my SiIvaGunner takeover.

After 7 years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the weight.

Thanks, and have fun.

(All content is willingly submitted by a team of content creators; if you use a video for your content, please credit the channel, and do not monetize it if said content consists primarily of/is centered around the video in question.)

The Twitter account's name was changed to "Gabe Newell", the banner was changed to another picture of Gabe, and the location was changed to "Valve".

Additionally, during the event, places where the number 3 would appear in the metadata and thumbnail were replaced with the Source missing texture (or the ▚ symbol in text), referencing the "Valve can't count to 3" meme. This resulted in the creation of several fake games which had the number 3 in their titles with the thumbnails also edited to reflect this.

Rips uploaded

Most rips uploaded during this event were of games published by Valve, such as Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, or featured songs from/related to them. Valve-related memes were also referenced, especially ones related to Gabe Newell and the "GabeN" audio clip. The catchphrase was changed to "Please let me know what you think after you've had a chance to read the channel description."

The event was initially foreshadowed four days prior with the video "cam_apsci_1532.avi", which was discovered after decoding a series of unlisted Portal rips referencing the Portal ARG, and contained the hidden message COMINGSOON0824.

The event was split into three "episodes". No rips were uploaded for "Episode 3", save for "Credits - Gabe Newell Simulator" and "A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles: Rock Band", the closing rip for the takeover and a tie-in to the next event respectively, referencing the "Valve can't count to 3" meme.

You may be wondering how we were able to make Episode 2.

I had to sell off The Combine to Haltmann Works Co., but that works out as a win-win for me, the entire team was an ass, and we won't be working with them again.

August 25 Posted after the upload of the rip "Steam Sale Encore - Gabe Newell Simulator". The image shows the Gabe Newell and Haltmann models used in the rip "Opening Sequence (Unused) - Garry's Mod" shaking hands, with Combine soldiers standing behind them. The second paragraph also references Gabe's response to DOTA 2 caster James Harding on Reddit.

Get ready for a miracle!
