Daft Punk were a French electronic music duo consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They are also a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Overview

In 1992, after being friends for about five years, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter formed a rock and roll group called Darlin'. After about six months of activity, a negative review was published on the magazine Melody Maker in which their music was called "a daft punky thrash". Soon after, the band separated and Homem-Christo and Bangalter decided to pursue electronic music as a duo, under the name Daft Punk.

In 1994, Daft Punk released their debut single, "The New Wave", followed by "Da Funk" in 1995, their first commercially successful release. They then released their debut studio album in 1997, titled Homework, which brought the duo worldwide success and drew great attention to the French house genre, with the single "Around the World" also becoming a major hit. Later that year, they performed their first of two concert tours, Daftendirektour. Their second album, Discovery, was released in 2001, becoming another hit and launching the duo into further mainstream popularity. Leading up to the album's release, the duo debuted robot costumes for promotional appearances, which would become their signature looks from that point onwards. They also released a companion animated film to Discovery in 2003, titled Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.

In 2005, Daft Punk released their third album, Human After All. It received mixed reviews, but was nonetheless successful. Throughout 2006 and 2007, they performed the worldwide concert tour Alive 2006/2007, with their performances from this tour later released in the album Alive 2007. They then composed the soundtrack for the 2010 Disney film Tron: Legacy. In 2013, they released their fourth and final album, Random Access Memories, featuring collaborations with various artists. This album would end up becoming Daft Punk's most successful release in their entire careers, topping the US Billlboard 200 and winning five awards, two of which were thanks to the album's lead single, "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

Following Random Access Memories, Daft Punk would collaborate with the Weeknd in 2016 to release two more singles, "Starboy" and "I Feel It Coming". On February 22, 2021, the official Daft Punk YouTube channel uploaded a video titled "Daft Punk - Epilogue", announcing that the duo had split and gone their separate ways.

Rips

SiIvaGunner has uploaded numerous high quality rips featuring songs by Daft Punk, spanning all the way back from the early days of the GiIvaSunner channel. They are most commonly used in mashups and medley rips, but have been incorporated into solo melody changes and arrangements as well. Notably, many Daft Punk mashups are with tracks from games composed by Hideki Naganuma, such as Jet Set Radio and Ollie King, likely due to both making heavy use of sampling in their compositions.

Additionally, Daft Punk appeared as characters in the King for Another Day Tournament alongside Pharrell Williams, forming the trio Daft Punk ft. Pharrell as a nod to their past collaborations with one another. They brought a handful of arrangements based on Daft Punk music, as well as other songs in the French house genre, music featuring vocoded vocals, and from other artists signed to Ed Banger Records.
