"Battle! (Wild Pokémon) - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire" is a high quality rip of "Battle! (Wild Pokémon)" from Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. It is the first high-quality rip ever made.

Jokes

At 0:12, the melody changes to "Meet the Flintstones" and the video switches to an enlarged, low-quality image of Grand Dad. At the end, an "op" sample from "Gangnam Style" plays.

The Grand Dad image seen in the rip.

History

This rip was originally uploaded on the GiIvaSunner channel on January 9, 2016, under the title "Wild Pokémon Battle - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire".[1][2] It was the very first high quality rip uploaded. The description was also different on initial release:

Music: Wild Pokémon Battle
Composer: Junichi Masuda

Platform: Gameboy Advance .

According to Chaze the Chat, he created the rip a few days prior, around January 2, 2016.[3] He says he was inspired by a remix by toonlink, which would be later reworked into the rip "A Secret Course (Anniversary Edition) - Super Mario Sunshine".[4]

Despite being one of the most popular and iconic rips, it wasn't reuploaded on the SiIvaGunner channel during the first wave of reuploads in April-May 2016. This was acknowledged by SiIvaGunner, who trolled the fans that waited for this rip by uploading a parody rip on May 30, 2016. The rip was finally reuploaded for real on June 12, 2016.[5] As with other early Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire rips, the word "and" in the title was later changed to an ampersand at an unknown date.

The rip was reuploaded again on SiIvaGunner2 on January 9, 2019, as the first of many rips reuploaded to celebrate GiIvaSunner's third anniversary (not counting "The Dark World - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past", which was briefly uploaded as a test). This reupload uses the album version of the rip, and does not feature the "op" or the image change.[6]

Trivia

  • Naturally, this rip is the first appearance of 7 GRAND DAD (as well as the specific sub-meme of "Meet the Flintstones" and the character of Grand Dad) and "Gangnam Style" on the channel. It is also the first rip to feature a melody change.
  • Several of the earliest GiIvaSunner rips featured the background image changing with the melody, from the appropriate game logo to a picture related to the rip's joke. This rip is the only one that retained this feature after being reuploaded to the SiIvaGunner channel, most likely due to its important place in SiIvaGunner's history.
  • Until March 30, 2017,[7] this rip was credited in Volume 1 to the placeholder name "Barney Rubble".
